After the fall of the infamous wall and the long-awaited reunification of Germany all were convinced that Berlin had taken a long journey to recover the social, economic and cultural deserved, but few probably expected that this capital in such a short time became one of the most vibrant and active city in Europe, especially on the enormous effort undertaken by the architectural and urban authorities who saw her at the center of many international competitions.
We can say that Berlin was the field testing and testing of all modern theories of urban planning and architecture that have applied concepts important today as sustainable development, conservation and energy efficiency.
The result is visible to all: Berlin is not only one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe (there are works of almost all the major architects of the world) but it is mainly one of the most livable cities, in where the quality of life has always been a fixed point of every choice city during its reconstruction.
The beautiful dome of the Reichstag building new (restored by Norman Foster), the redevelopment of Potsdamer Platz with the Sony Center (one of the most beautiful and popular squares), the new Pariser Platz (which is new to outline the Brandenburg Gate) are just a few examples of how to redevelop an urban context and make it worthy of a great capital.
Finally do not forget the rebuilding of the Royal Palace, a place formerly occupied by the dilapidated building of the GDR, who will win the competition earlier this year by the Italian architect Franco Stella, and that will complete the redevelopment of areas around the river Spree.
